'Poi'
Mana Series - Shot in Papaioea, New Zealand.
“The Poi was originally used by women and men to strengthen their wrists and to develop flexibility in their hands. This was important, as most hand-held weapons such as the mere pounamu and kotiate were quite difficult to manoeuvre, if your wrists and hands were not strong. The poi was used to develop good hand-eye coordination which was required during battle. Nowadays, it is common for women to perform the poi for entertainment with beauty and grace.” Nā Josh Strickland
